Job summary
Eye Casualty is an exciting, busy department which manages the care of eye patients needing urgent assessment, diagnosis and treatment. We also have elective laser activity and a Rapid Access clinic. As part of planned improvements, we are increasing the number of our Band 5 staff nurses. The successful candidates will be able to access a specialist development programme, with mentoring and educational support, that may lead, when the opportunity arises, to training as a Nurse Practitioner. This a great opportunity to join an ever-expanding specialty.
The post holder will be required to work various shifts to support the needs of the service. This includes working weekdays, weekends, bank holiday days and varying hours with the earliest start time at 7:00am and latest finish time of 10:00pm. Main duties of the job
As an Eye Casualty Staff Nurse you will be responsible for patient care in Eye Casualty and Laser Suite. This will also involve coordinating the department, problem-solving, planning and implementing patient care and ensuring colleagues adhere to Trust policies and guidelines. If you have achieved the ophthalmic programme training, you will be expected to use this in the course of managing and triaging your patients.
You may have the opportunity to further expand your skills within the Band 5 role by learning the use of slit lamp and Goldmann's applanation tonometer, use of Log mar, assisting medical practitioner in the treatment of eye emergency such as suturing, intravitreal injections.
