Job summary

Urology is excited to advertise for 1.6wte Surgical Care Practitioner Posts. The role will involve working across both the theatre and outpatient setting and will be heavily involved with the prostate pathway and Urology's robotic programme.

The post holder will provide expert assistance at robotic urological surgeries including Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy (RALP), Robotic Assisted Partial Nephrectomy (RAPN), Robotic Pyeloplasty and Robotic Cystectomy (RC), helping to developing the skills of the wider theatre team

The post holder will be involved in specific areas of the patient pathway including outpatient consultations, history taking, physical examination and diagnosis, taking informed consent, admission and discharge, first assisting in theatre, telephone follow-up clinic (including active surveillance of low risk prostate cancer), patient and carers support service

Main duties of the job

The SCP will develop their skills with the aim to start independent theatre lists for certain diagnostic procedures though competency attainment.

oProvide leadership, supervision and guidance in the development of Surgical Care Practitioners (SCP) across the NUH Trust.

o Take overall responsibility for care and management of a caseload of patients.

o Independently order investigations based on clinical need and action results.

o Develop expertise in prostate cancer diagnosis and management.

o Develop safe clinical decision making skills and expert care for patients

o Be responsible for and in collaboration with senior medical staff undertake the teaching of medical staff

o Be a point of contact for nursing staff requiring clinical advice.

o To deliver high quality patient care, acting as a role model for surgical practitioner led practice across different specialties in the Trust.

o To provide clinical advice; education and leadership within the speciality of Urology.

o To act as a source of expertise, advice and knowledge for patients, carers and health and social care professionals.

o To work within the interdisciplinary team in the provision of optimum care throughout all aspects of the patients care pathway and in all clinical settings.

o To develop, undertake, and produce audit reports/service evaluation.

o To undertake and participate in research including the publishing of outcomes

Training

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years in a surgical environment at band 6 level
  • Professional registration
  • Have a clinical background in nursing, allied health professionals or science related field.

Desirable

  • Advanced Surgical Practitioner course obtained / able to undertake
