Job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Trauma Practitioner team. The team has currently expanded to meet to needs of our service and we work in a variety of areas within Orthopaedic Trauma from ED, fracture clinic, wards and theatres.
As a Trauma Nurse specialist you will be responsible for overseeing the hand pathway and prioritising patients accordingly. You will be expected to work closely with trauma orthopaedic specialist consultant to co-ordinate the clinics to ensure they run smoothly. You will have oversight of all patients on the trauma pathway. You will be required to work independently as well as within teams.
Main duties of the job
To ensure all patients admitted to Orthopaedic Trauma are appropriately assessed. For operative management you need to ensure patients are prioritised and listed for surgery by clinical priority and take in to consideration the availability of surgeons., you will also need to have good oversight of the trauma orthopaedic pathway.
Ensure the theatre lists are fully utilised communicating effectively to consultants, wards, and theatre staff.
The skills required are: IT, effective communication, ECG, history taking and examination (heart and lung auscultation and limb assessment), ordering investigations such as bloods, ECHO and X-rays. We can also support you in developing these skills if you do not already possess them.
