Job summary

SENIOR CLINICAL FELLOW IN PAEDIATRIC DERMATOLOGY- Accredited for Post-CCT fellowship training by British Association of Dermatologists

This is a 12 month post to commence February 2025

This Senior Clinical fellow post in Paediatric Dermatology at Nottingham Children's Hospital (part of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust) provides 12 months supervised experience for individuals intending to practice as a dermatologist specialising in paediatric dermatology.

Preference will be given to applicants who have fulfilled all the requirements for CCT in dermatology who will be eligible to achieve post CCT accreditation in paediatric dermatology from the British Association of Dermatologists. Applications will also be considered from pre CCT or CESR dermatology trainees or paediatricians wishing to develop their experience in paediatric dermatology. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a minimum of 1 year experience in specialised paediatric dermatology.

The post is full time based at Queen's medical Centre, Nottingham. The trainee will be given the opportunity to acquire capabilities in the following 3 areas: Dermatology as applied to paediatric practice; General paediatrics as applied to dermatology practice; Advanced paediatric dermatology and genetics.

The department has close links with the Centre for Evidence based dermatology at Nottingham University and participation in research is encouraged and supported.

Main duties of the job

The post is full time with 6 PAs in paediatric dermatology and 4 PAs in adult dermatology.

This is a new post which has arisen due to increasing demand for paediatric dermatology and adult dermatology services across Nottinghamshire and the need to support the existing team of dermatologists and paediatricians at Nottingham University Hospital.

The role will entail all aspects of paediatric dermatology as appropriate to the training of the appointee with relevant training where necessary. There will be the opportunity to develop expertise in chosen areas of paediatric and adult dermatology.

Applicants should be fully registered with the GMC and have a licence to practice. Applicants must have or be within 6 months of receiving, a CCT in dermatology at the time of appointment.

All our Consultants are appointed as Clinical Teachers by The University of Nottingham.

About us

Nottingham Paediatric Dermatology Services

The existing Dermatology service undertakes consultant led outpatient and diagnostic services, treatments and surgical intervention. Specialist nurses provide nurse-led chronic disease management, skin cancer, light therapy, photodynamic therapy, biopsy, triamcinolone and holistic needs clinic. The consultant-led services undertaken are linked to inpatient facilities in NUH and staff work as a cohesive unit to ensure smooth patient pathways across both organisations. In addition to the current services, we are aiming to develop community based dermatology services that use the latest telemedicine technology and skilled-up GPs, nurses and technicians.

The post will be based in the paediatric dermatology department. Contribute to vetting new referrals and Advice and Guidance requests from GPs to the paediatric dermatology service

Teach on the undergraduate and postgraduate training programme and supervise of medical students

Provide cross cover for consultant colleagues during periods of leave

Recruit to dermatology research trials as appropriate
