Job summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced pharmacy technician, to join our new EPMA team at one of the largest and busiest tertiary referral teaching trusts in the country.

Under the direction of the Lead Pharmacist and as part of the wider pharmacy and multidisciplinary team you will use your technical pharmacy knowledge in the system build, configuration and on-going maintenance of this exciting technology, ensuring pharmacy and the wider hospital realise its full potential to improve medicines optimisation and patient safety.

The successful candidate will have an interest in IT systems, be able to work independently as well as part of a team, be conscientious, and beable to prioritise their own workload effectively while displaying excellent attention to detail. You will have good communication skills and be confident in the multi-disciplinary environment. A strong clinical background and experience of other IT prescribing systems or information manipulation would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

Under the leadership and direction of the Lead Pharmacist - Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA):

Responsible for the development, configuration, testing, implementation, on-going maintenance and management of the Trust's EPMA system and relevant digital medicines systems.

To work with the Lead EPMA Pharmacist and the multi-disciplinary EPMA project and Digital Nurse teams in delivering the outputs required for implementation project and ongoing optimisation and support; ensuring robust, safe, effective, auditable processes and systems are in place in line with national standards and local policy and procedures. This will involve assisting in, and leading on some aspects of the support, maintenance and development of the EPMA and relevant digital medicines systems and being responsible for the day to day management.

To proactively lead, develop co-ordinate and deliver any aspect of pharmacy education /training on how Pharmacy staff interact with the EPMA system to perform their duties.

Essential

  • General Pharmaceutical Council Registered Pharmacy Technician.
  • Current dispensary accuracy checking pharmacy technician (accredited or proof of in house training)

Desirable

  • GCSE Grade B/5 or higher in maths (or equivalent)
  • GCSE Grade B/5 or higher in Computer science (or equivalent)
  • GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English, and Science (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial hospital pharmacy experience
  • Relevant experience in a senior technician role responsible for managing staff, services or resources
  • Knowledge and experience of service improvement, change management and service development techniques
  • Substantial experience and knowledge of pharmacy stock control systems gained through significant relevant post qualification experience
  • Experience of teaching/training staff at all levels

Desirable

  • Experience of risk management and audit
  • Previous experience of working with an EPMA system
