Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist: Paediatric Oncology

Job summary

Due to a skill mix review we are excited to advertise for a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist to lead and develop our Acute Paediatric Oncology service.

You will be part of the wider Neurosciences & Oncology Team, taking a lead on Oncology and Neuro-Oncology patients, as well as supporting cross cover throughout our Childrens OT team where needed.

This role is permanent at 30 hours a week. Working Mondays are essential, but other days of the week will be discussed at interview.

You will work closely with our AHP colleagues in Physiotherapy, Speech & Language Therapy and Dietetics as well as the wider MDT.

experienced in working within Oncology care/paediatrics?

enthusiastic about developing the specialist and unique OT role within Oncology?

confidently able to demonstrate the value of occupational therapy for Paediatric Oncology, helping to establish OT as a key profession within the MDT?

able to work autonomously and provide specialist OT assessment and interventions to Childrens, Young People and their families?

Main duties of the job

You will:

Work closely with the MDT whilst delivering a high standard of Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention with an Inpatient ad Outpatient caseload.

Have experience of working with children and young people with Oncological conditions including altered Neurology.

Manage a complex clinical caseload.

Work closely with community colleagues across the region to support with the discharge and ongoing rehabilitation for children and young people oncological conditions.

Help develop and lead service improvements within the Oncology service, and the wider Children's Occupational Therapy service.

Demonstrate commitment to the learning of others and provide training and mentorship to a number of staff through appraisal, clinical supervision and teaching.

Have excellent communication skills.

  • BSc Hons (or equivalent) Occupational Therapy
  • Full Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registration
  • Recognised post -graduate training relevant to specialty preferably including MSc or completed modules

Experience

  • Wide ranging and extensive experience of working within specialist area
  • Knowledge of current best practice within a clinical specialty
  • Able to evaluate current research and make recommendations for change in practice and implement these changes
