Job summary

This post offers a fixed term contract for a period of 18 months. The successful candidate who will be based across Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) campuses will be responsible for a collaborative research project evaluating the new cytological device EndoSign(TM). The successful candidate will also be responsible for additional research activities including developing research objectives and proposals for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy and writing outputs for publication.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage, plan and conduct own research activity using recognised approaches, methodologies and techniques within the research area.
  • To manage and co-ordinate current research studies.
  • To resolve problems in meeting research objectives and deadlines in collaboration with others.
  • To identify opportunities and assist in writing bids for research grant applications.
  • Prepare proposals and applications to both external and/or internal bodies for funding, contractual or accreditation purposes.
  • Attend academic activities across organisations, national and international conferences.
  • Actively participate in other multicentre and international research studies as deemed appropriate.

About us

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) spans 3 sites and runs 3 endoscopy units with 11 rooms across Queens' Medical Centre Campus (QMC) and Nottingham City Campus (NCC). Our services are busy with a high throughput of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. On average, we perform 27,000 endoscopies per annum. This includes 9000 colonoscopies, 11,000 upper GI endoscopies, 700 ERCPs and 1100 EUS procedures. A variety of interventional and advanced endoscopy procedures are also performed. Colorectal cancer screening in Nottingham commenced with the second wave of the national bowel cancer screening program and takes place from this site, including bowel scope.
