Job summary
The Surgery Division is advertising for a Specialty General Manager to lead the Trauma & Orthopaedics, Paediatric Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Hands services at NUH. This role is mainly based at the Queen's Medical Centre, but the post holder will potentially be expected to work across Nottingham City Hospital and the Nottingham Treatment Centre as required and both services have a regional and national profile.

Main duties of the job
As SGM you will be responsible and accountable for the operational management and performance of all specialties above, providing strong visible leadership in partnership with the Head of Service and Nursing Leads, driving through ambitious targets to continually improve operational and financial performance. This will be a high profile role and would suit a highly experienced service manager looking to develop into an SGM post or an existing SGM wanting to gain experience in another specialty. It also provides the opportunity for someone to gain direct operational experience within this large acute trust.

As a member of the management team you will be expected to respond to urgent deadlines and will be confident in working on your own initiative and under pressure in an ever changing, fast-moving environment. You will have excellent problem-solving skills and an open, adaptable "can do" attitude. You will need to be resilient, confident, articulate and have a good understanding of the clinical pressures. You must be able to demonstrate experience of or the aptitude to manage and deliver challenging targets within a healthcare environment, strategic thinking and evidence of delivery of improvement to clinical services.
