Job summary

fixed term, full time 37.5 ( part time applicants welcome to apply - minimum hours of 30 per week required).

We are looking to recruit an adaptable enthusiastic candidate, who has an interest in learning about amputees. Amputee experience is not essential, as full training will be given.

They must demonstrate experience of rehabilitation of the older person, orthopaedic patients, and have knowledge and experience in MSK Physiotherapy.

The successful candidate must have experience working with a broad range of complex disabilities ,demonstrate a flexible work ethic, and have worked alongside a wide-ranging MDT. They must be experienced with performance management of support staff and students, and have some confidence working with challenging patients.

The Mobility Centre is an outpatient MDT service based at City campus. We review all amputees adult and paediatric in the Nottingham and Lincolnshire area, as well as amputees with upper limb loss and children with limb loss from Derby.

The post holder will support the patient's care pathway in the physio gym, attend Dr's clinics, as well as visiting them on wards, and or in home settings, dependent on their needs.

Main duties of the job

To provide physiotherapy input to the Regional Prosthetic Service, alongside Prosthetic MDT team

To participate in the inter-disciplinary assessment process, negotiated client-centred goal settings and completing outcome measurements for amputees.

To be responsible for managing a caseload of amputee patients, both non-limb wearers and prosthetic users, and to provide physiotherapy in the most appropriate setting; usually at the Mobility Centre, but occasionally assessing patients in their own home, nursing home, hospital ward or school.

To provide physiotherapy treatments, including early walking aids and gait training techniques with prosthetics.

To communicate with physiotherapy departments locally and regionally to relay patient-related information concerning their physiotherapy requirements and goals.

Clinical

To have responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Indirect supervision takes the form of clinical reasoning sessions, peer review. Access to advice and support from a Senior Physiotherapist is available.

To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations / multi pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of patient condition

To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of condition. Communication skills of persuasion and motivation are required. Clear explanation is needed to encourage the patients to undertake their treatment programme.

To use communication tools (verbal and non verbal) to gain valid consent with patients where there will often be barriers to effective communication e.g. loss of hearing, altered perception, expressive and receptive dysphasia, pain, fears.

Evaluate patient progress, reassess treatment programmes as required.

Represent physiotherapy service and/or individual patients at the multi-disciplinary team meetings, to ensure the delivery of service. This will include discussion of patient care, patient progress and involvement in discharge planning

If working on the emergency duty on-call rota, provide advice to medical and nursing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team regarding patients respiratory condition.
