Job summary
The National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) is phase two of the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre Programme (DNRC). The National Programme has been run by the Black Stork Charity until January 2019 when the NHS programme arrangements were established.
Following a £300 million build of state of the art rehabilitation facilities for the military, the Defence rehabilitation centre is now operational on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate.

The opportunity now is to create the first collaborative NHS and defence specialist clinical rehabilitation capability in the UK with sharing of knowledge, expertise and facilities. The National facility comprises:
- Regional/National inpatient rehabilitation unit
- National training and education centre
- National /international research and innovation centre
NUH are hosting the delivery of the National Rehabilitation Centre and running the programme. The programme management structure is robust and will report through governance arrangements involving NHSI, DHSC and HM Treasury.
Main duties of the job
The Programme Director will provide comprehensive Business Case Project Management for the programme. This exciting role will ensure that best practice, standards, tools and techniques are in place. The post holder will direct the project managers to establish meetings and workshops and work with leads in the production and delivery of business cases aligned to the NHS 5 case model.
- Lead on the development of the National Rehabilitation Centre on behalf of NUH and to always represent NUH to external partners in a professional manner.
- Lead on the establishment of the programme structure including NRC programme board, reference groups, and capital and estates colleagues.
- Procure as necessary external and professional support for the NRC programme both regarding project management and professional services.
- To liaise with PAU and NHSI colleagues regularly and as required to provide ongoing dialogue for the programme.
- Provide assurance to commissioning and regulatory colleagues of progress and escalate issues and risks as required outside of programme board where necessary.
- Work in a strong and effective corporate manner, working with key stakeholders including Trust Executive Directors to ensure programme development and generate highly effective outcomes in a politically sensitive and contentious environment
- Take overall responsibility for programme delivery. and to deputise for the NRC programme board chair as required
