Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work in both a multi-disciplinary NHS England funded hepatitis C elimination project and an NIHR funded HIV research project to detect blood borne viruses via opt-out testing in the Emergency Department at Queen's Medical Centre.
This role will be the vital link between pathology and the patient as well as the Viral Hepatitis and HIV teams, informing patients of positive diagnosis, following up those with indeterminate results, organising referral, training and supporting staff in the Emergency Department.
The majority of these will be unexpected diagnoses so patients may require counselling and support to encourage them to enter care.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role will be the follow-up of any HIV, HBsAg or HCV RNA positive patients detected via a BBV opt-out test taken when having routine blood tests as part of their standard care inthe Emergency Department at Queen's Medical Centre.
Additionally, the post holder will be responsible for the follow-up of any other non-negative test and willform part of the team collating and submitting data to NHS England and the NIHR to track the progress of the project.
The post holder will also be expected to work closely with the Viral Hepatitis and HIV teams to provide clinical nurse specialist input to other activities within the ODN in relation to hepatitis C and cirrhosis screening and management, as required.
