Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the NUH Corporate Finance team for a Finance Analyst. The role will help to provide financial management support to operational and corporate colleagues. Working with the Divisional Finance Manager and Corporate Finance Team, you will provide analytical support in the preparation of accurate and timely monthly and annual management accounts. Your other duties will include the management of budgets, provision of financial support, training and advice to budget holders, completion of costings for projects/business cases and support with benchmarking. The role includes day to day line management of 2 Management Accounts Assistants.

The ideal candidate may be working towards a professional accounting qualification, with prior experience of working in a financial management environment.

The department utilises tools such as Service Line Reporting, Patient Level Costing, and benchmarking (Model Hospital etc.). These tools are used to help our operational colleagues develop a better understanding of their financial position and improve the effectiveness of their services.

  • AAT Level 4
  • Degree or equivalent
  • Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Studying towards CIMA/ACCA.

Experience

  • Experience of working in a financial management environment
  • Experience of staff management and working practices
  • Awareness of standard accounting and auditing practice and financial reporting standards
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office
  • Experience of using high level IT skills, including advanced spreadsheets, computerised financial ledgers, budgeting and financial modelling systems and costing systems

Desirable

  • Working in an acute teaching hospital environment
  • Experience of using an NHS computerised general ledger system and in particular McKeowns 'Integra' General Ledger
  • Knowledge of the workings of the NHS finance regime

Communication and relationship skills

  • Possess excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative but also as part of a team

Analytical and Judgement skills

  • Ability to assimilate complex data and convey financial issues to non-financial staff
