Job summary

Looking for a new challenge? An exciting opportunity has arisen on our Acute Medical Unit for a clinical support worker. Based at the Queens Medical centre, ward B3 prides itself on providing excellent patient care in a modern environment.

We are a 51 bedded unit that is dynamic and fast paced caring for patients admitted through our Emergency Department and GP Admissions pathways who require an inpatient stay.

This is an opportunity tolearn new skills and develop in a medical admissions area that is passionate about continued professional development.

We are looking for an individual who is keen to learn, confident, self-motivated and enjoys a challenge. The successful candidate will be competent in venepuncture, cannulation and ECG recordings.

Competent in Venepuncture.

competent in taking ECG

Accurately obtain and document patients results

Able to prioritise own work load

Assist in taking and recording patients observations.

Report to registered nurse all concerns about patient's condition.

Assist meeting the comfort and hygiene needs of patients.

Deliver efficient, effective care and communicate between the multidisciplinary team, patient, relatives and carer's.

Able to support and supervise new starters.

Act as the patients advocate ensuring that their best interests are met.

Job responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, carry out nursing procedures following verification of competency and assist with the care and treatment of patients.

This will include: assisting with meeting the comfort and hygiene needs of patients which will include washing/bathing, oral care, escorting to toilet, assisting with bed pans/commodes, making beds and dealing with dirty linen in accordance with procedures.

Assisting the registered staff with taking and recording patients temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure and completing patient fluid balance charts assisting with meeting the dietary needs of patients which will include distribution of drinks and meals and helping patients to eat and drink as required.

Be able to perform competent venepuncture and cannulation.

Carry out expected role without the need for constant supervision although recognising limitations and seeking direction when necessary.

Use initiative in planning daily and weekly routines.

Make a contribution to the development of patient care and setting standards.

Be aware of need for own personal development and be prepared to attend and undertake any necessary training, being aware of the need to develop oneself and to strive to increase personal knowledge.
