Job summary

NUH Cellular Pathology has the pleasure of advertising a new, unique and innovative role to service. This role forms part of NUH Cell Paths ambition to meet national TAT's against the back drop of the new NHSE guidelines for Transforming Histopathology.

The post holder will be expected to work across both QMC and City hospital sites, five days a week covering a Monday - Saturday Service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a member of the Cellular Pathology Senior Management Team and will assist in the delivery of a quality driven, patient focused service consistent with pathology's aims and objectives in a manner commensurate with the profession.

The post holders' main role is to act as the Continual Improvement & Strategy Manager for Cellular Pathology and have delegated responsibility for the planning, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the departmental improvement initiatives. The post holder will work closely with the Head of Quality, Training and Strategic Improvement to ensure the department remains at the forefront of the latest innovations. With increasing demand and complexity of testing, the Continual Improvement & Strategy Manager will be pivotal in ensuring the delivery of a high quality relevant diagnostic service.

At NUH Cellular Pathology the Continual Improvement & Strategy Manager will help facilitate the Cost Improvement Program (CIP) year on year providing novel thinking supporting the delivery of the projected benefits. They will have the responsibility for ensuring all project plans are on the Trust POM system (Matrix) while working with the Ops managers and specialist leads to update plans accordingly.

The post holder will be responsible for development of business cases working with Operational Managers and Specialist Leads and submit for review to the Speciality General Manager and Head of Quality, Training & Strategic Improvement.

About us

The department is approved for training by the IBMS/ HCPC and holds UKAS ISO:15189 accreditation.Working hours are within 08.00 to 20:00 Monday to Saturday and the successful post holder will be expected to contribute to the 6 day service on a rotational basis. You will be required to work in the Histopathology laboratories on both QMC and City Hospital NUH campuses.

Training and Qualifications

Essential

  • First degree or equivalent
  • MSc Postgraduate qualification (or equivalent demonstrable education e.g IBMS HSD)
  • Project or change management qualification (Lean six sigma, Prince 2 etc.)

Desirable

  • State Registered BMS (HCPC) being a Member/Fellow of the IBMS
  • Evidence of formal management training / recognised management qualification
  • A training qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge and experience of operational processes used within Cellular Pathology
  • Knowledge and awareness of laboratory accreditation standards
  • Experience of line managing staff
  • Ability to undertake effective change management & planning
  • Competent in the theory and application of service improvement tools and techniques, including: oDemand and capacity oProcess mapping and redesign oStatistical process control oWorkforce redesign

Desirable

  • Experience of using electronic quality management and Datix systems
  • Awareness of the national and local Pathology NHS agendas

Planning and Organisational Skills

  • Able to carry out long term planning to ensure adequate quality systems in place to support UKAS/HTA/SQAS accreditation.
