Main duties of the job
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced individual to be our new Medical Director; this is a central role underpinning our capability to deliver on our vision and ambition as we enter the next phase in the development of our Trust.The successful candidate will be responsible for providing visible and transformational clinical and professional leadership of a medical workforce that includes close to 1,000 consultants and over 1,000 locally employed and trainee doctors. The post-holder will work closely with the Chief Nurse in relation to patient safety and clinical effectiveness, as well as being the executive lead for Research and Innovation.
The Medical Director will make an important contribution towards the development, promotion and delivery of the Trust's strategic vision for our medical workforce. This includes enabling diversity in all its forms, promoting staff wellbeing and creating a just culture of learning and improvement. We seek an inclusive and inspirational leader who embodies our Trust values and who can build, lead, motivate and develop our multidisciplinary teams to improve performance and deliver better care and experience for patients.

'Tomorrow's NUH' is one of the 'full adopter' schemes in the Government's New Hospital Programme, set to receive funding towards the end of the decade. We have a unique and exciting opportunity to significantly invest in our buildings, our people, and the technology we use in ways that will make a real difference to the health and lives of the people in our local community over the longer term. In the short term, we have a substantial capital programme which will secure improvements over the next 2-5 years. In addition, we are in the construction phase of the first National Rehabilitation Centre, which will open to patients in early 2025.
