An opportunities has arisen to join the senior nursing team on Ward F21 for a permanent band 6 post.
Ward 21 is a Gastrointestinal Ward based at Queens Medical Centre. You will be part of a well established nursing team with senior support.
It is a 28 bedded mixed sex ward taking adult patients both male and female from Nottinghamshire and the surrounding counties for specialised treatment of the GI tract.
We have a fast turn over of patients and the ward has acutely ill patients that often have complex needs. We take patients with liver disease, gastrointestinal illnesses and digestive disorders.
This is an exciting time for ward F21 - we have recently undergone an establishment review on it's staffing and have been granted an uplift.
This includes: A full time band 6 clinical educator
A full time band 6 mental health support nurse
An increase in HCA establishment
An uplift of 4 registered nurses on nightshifts instead of 3.
Main duties of the job
Candidates should have at least 2 years post registration experience within an acute hospital setting.
Candidates should hold current mentorship skills and be able to perform extended roles such as IV administration and taking charge of the ward
Once appointed the candidate will be expected to deputise for the Band 7 in his absence and be versed in the role of the Band 7.
The Band 6 role includes co-ordinating the shift on a daily basis. Ensuring that the flow of patients through the ward from admission to discharge is completed in a timely and safe manner. They will also be responsible ensuring the staff are promoting high standards of care and challenge poor practice. They will also be responsible for rota planning to ensure a safe nurse patient ratio per shift. See person spec for remaining criteria.
About us
The candidate will be expected to work Bank Holidays and weekends mainly working long days 07.00 -19.30 on a 4 week rota. This role will include night duties in the future. This will also include non clinical shifts for the candidate to complete any non clinical work, e.g. completing the rota and investigating DATIX's, return to work interviews etc.
Support and training for this role will be provided within the established senior team and trust training is also available for this role. A supernumerary period will be offered, during which you will shadow the Ward Manager and a Deputy Manager.
