Job summary

Do you fancy doing something a little different and learning about the ways in which medicines are commissioned and how this in turn is then implemented within the Trust?

Have you ever thought about how medicines are funded and the steps undertaken to ensure that the Trust is correctly reimbursed for the medicines that we use?

Would you like to work alongside different clinical teams to support them realise financial savings from making changes to the medicines they use and the ways in which they use them?

Main duties of the job

  1. To deliver successful implementation of efficiency schemes relating to high cost medicines with the support of the Lead Pharmacist: High Cost Medicines Management.
  2. To support the Lead Pharmacist: High Cost Medicines Management in managing the approval, appropriate use and audit of high cost medicines not reimbursed by national prices under Payment by Results (PbR).
  3. To partake in specialised clinical pharmacy duties ensuring core clinical pharmacy activities are undertaken whilst delivering against the medicines optimisation strategy for NUH.
  4. To line manage and support specifically designated pharmacy staff and the wider medicines management team

  • oB.Pharm /BSc (Pharmacy)/MPharm/MSc or equivalent
  • oDiploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate experience

Shortlisting

  • Wide previous experience (post registration) in hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of developing and implementing action plans to introduce a new service/service change
  • Strong, accurate and concise written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Proven problem solving approach on a wide range of clinical issues, and able to think laterally to develop new ideas
  • Able to prioritise, plan, co-ordinate, develop and adjust services

Desirable

  • Experience of medicines finance issues (eg cost containment schemes)
  • Knowledge of national/regional funding and commissioning pathways for high cost medicines
  • Experience of analysing complex expenditure data
