Job summary
East Midlands Sarcoma Service is a regional specialist centre for the diagnosis and management of soft tissue sarcomas for the 4.5 million population of the East Midlands. NUH is the lead treatment centre for EMSS and delivers all surgical interventions for soft tissue sarcoma in the region. NUH works in collaboration with University Hospitals of Leicester and other regional NHS Trusts to deliver care in a managed clinical network. The post-holder will work within an established multi-disciplinary team of surgical, medical and clinical oncologists, histopathologists, radiologists, specialist physiotherapists and clinical nurse specialists. The existing extremity surgical sarcoma team includes three plastic surgeons and two visiting orthopaedic surgeons; the post-holder will work closely with them as part of a team-based approach to patient management providing diagnostics, surgical resections and reconstructions.
Main duties of the job
The post is aimed at a Senior Plastic Surgery trainee. The post does not carry SAC, Royal College or GMC approval for training at present and would therefore suit a post-CCT or equivalent individual. It may be possible for the fellowship to be counted as Out of Program Training (OOPT) if the necessary approvals can be acquired in advance by the candidate. The post will be based at the Department of Burns & Plastic Surgery, at the City Hospital and Queens Medical Centre. Visits to Leicester University Hospitals NHS Trust, which is allied with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust within East Midlands Sarcoma Service (EMSS), will be included in the program approximately twice per month. The advertised post is for 6 months with the potential to extend to 12 months depending on training requirements.
