Job summary
This role is responsible for providing a uniformed specialist service. Ensuring that patients, visitors and staff are given advice and provided with a safe and secure environment in line with legislation and particularly in emergency situations. This will include communication with emergency services.
The post holders will protect people and property, detecting and preventing crime including operating and controlling access and key control systems.
Fundamental to the role will be operating the CCTV system pursuant with public safety, the prevention of disorder and crime and the operational need of the Trust. Operation must be in accordance with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998, the Human Rights Act 1998, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Acts 2016, other relevant legislation and the Trust's policies and procedures. This role will require a degree of liaison with emergency services
Main duties of the job
Accurately record and log all incidents reported to the Control Room within the Daily Occurrence Book and take appropriate action to ensure incidents are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
Monitor the movement of vehicular traffic and vehicle parking (both on-street and within the car parks) and report / respond to identified incidents by despatching resources to the incident and/or deal with the incident in an appropriate manner.
About us
The security department works across all Three NUH campus sites and comprises of a team leader and several security officers and CCTV operators on each site.
The duties will be shift working and cover both 12 hr days and nights including weekend and bank holiday working. These shifts are currently on a 4 on 5 off rota which provides excellent work life balance and also the opportunity for overtime if available.
The security department work closely as a team and rely on each other so its important to be a team player and have good interpersonal skills especially when dealing with customers
WORKING CONDITIONS
Office based environment with significant amount of concentration to monitoring activity across the campus. Occasional exposure to aggressive behaviour displayed by staff, visitors and/or patients. Rare exposure to viewing potentially distressing incidents through the CCTV system.

- The post holder must hold a valid SIA Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) Licence at all times on duty. When the license is due to expire within 3 months, or is revoked at any time, this must be immediately report to the Security Administrative Assistant.
- In accordance with the Trusts CCTV Policy, ensure that the operation of the system takes full account of its effect on individuals and their privacy.
- Ensure all information is recorded and stored for audit / evidence purposes in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.
- Ensure that all policies and procedures of the Trust and all relevant national legislation which affects the operation of CCTV and the Control Room is read, understood and adhered to at all times.
- Accurately record and log all incidents reported to the Control Room within the Daily Occurrence Book and take appropriate action to ensure incidents are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensure that the movement of cash collections on site are monitored by the use of CCTV systems including delivery of cash to the Trusts ATM.

- Report any obstruction of corridors or fire escapes to the person in charge of the location concerned and if required allocate appropriate resources to the incident.
- During serious / major incidents comply with the directions laid down by the Security Manager or contained in the Major Incident Plan and where appropriate by use of the systems in the CCTV Control Room.

- Assist in the search of buildings and any other matter involving the preservation of life and prevention of danger
- Exercise constant vigilance by the use of the Control Room systems to detect any potential hazard likely to endanger patients, visitors or staff; to deal appropriately with such hazards by diverting people from location; reporting the incident to whichever Departments and/or emergency services responsible for dealing with the problem, and making sure that the area remains protected until they arrive and remove the hazard.
- Be alert at all times, to spillages, general cleanliness issues, broken glass, graffiti, or any other matter that may impact upon the image and state the hospital and grounds as seen by the staff and general public. Such matters are to be reported to the appropriate manager able to rectify the situation.
- When on duty in the Control Room, support the Security Management Team in responding to any incident using the CCTV / Control Room systems. Also provide assistance, support and advice to callers on the telephone in a polite and courteous manner.
- Assume responsibility for the issue & receipt of Security staff radio and communications equipment.
- To report faults with any of the security equipment and/or infrastructure to the Helpdesk and to escalate these faults to the Team Leader as appropriate.
- To liaise with the Police, Fire & Rescue Service and other emergency services, assist in the search of buildings, and other matters involving the preservation of life and prevention of danger.
- Whilst on duty you are required to be smartly dressed at all times wearing only Trust approved items of uniform which you will be provided with.
