Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Therapy Support Worker to join our Health Care of Older People (HCOP) team at NUH NHS trust on a permanent basis. The successful candidate should have previous experience working in a dual competent capacity or as a physiotherapy or occupational therapy support worker and have the willingness and desire to develop skills to support the other profession.
The core hours will be 37.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm. The successful candidate will also be required to join a rota system to cover weekend and bank holidays. Part-time hours/job share will also be considered at a minimum of 18.75 hours per employee. There may also be secondment opportunities if funding is approved.
You will work under the supervision and guidance of trained physiotherapists and occupational therapists supporting the multidisciplinary team to provide therapy assessment and intervention tofacilitate hospital discharges.
The HCOP therapy team is responsible for providing therapy interventions across 10 wards at NUH which are located on both campuses, City and Queens Medical Centre (QMC). You will be expected to be able to work flexibly at both sites to meet service needs as required
Main duties of the job
You will mostly work alongside a qualified physiotherapist or occupational therapist providing initial intervention which includes mobility and transfer assessment, equipment provision and referral onto community services; alongside gathering information from patients, relatives and carers regarding social history, making use of our therapy assessment form.
Under the supervision of a qualified therapist you will be expected to complete initial patient assessments and also have a delegated patient caseload. You will set and provide treatment and discharge plans which includes provision of walking aids and adaptive equipment, progression of mobility, confidence building, strengthening exercise and falls prevention, being able to promote safety and wellbeing as well as independence within essential activities of daily living.
You will need excellent communication skills to work alongside the wide MDT and will be required to work closely with both physiotherapists and occupational therapists providing an integrated therapy approach.
You will have non-clinical responsibilities such as data collection, management of walking aid supply and stocking levels as well as other admin and housekeeping duties.
