Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Finance Research and Innovation team for an Assistant Divisional Finance Manager. Working with the Finance Analysts, the post holder will provide accurate financial information to the R&I area of the Trust to enable them to effectively manage their budgets, maximise timely income. The post holder will also work closely with other finance colleagues to help the Trust deliver strategic and operational goals.

Working in a friendly and welcoming environment, we are looking for someone with strong Microsoft excel skills, who is proactive, organised, has an excellent attention to detail and enjoys a challenge. The post-holder will be an enthusiastic person, a team player with a 'can do' attitude; keen to build relationships across the organisation in order to understand the finances and help to improve the accuracy of financial reporting.

In addition to accounting you will be providing 'Project Management' style support to the Research and Innovation team in by reviewing study costings, answering related queries and dealing with other ad-hoc requests.

Knowledge of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable procedures would be desirable, as queries from colleagues are varied in nature.

The role will involve liaising with Principal Investigators with regards to study costings and the management of spend for the duration of the study. Other working relationships will need to be maintained with external parties such as the National Institute for Healthcare Research and commercial bodies who fund research at NUH.

This post is based at Trust HQ (City Campus). The successful candidate will be expected to travel when necessary between the City Campus and the QMC Campus to attend meetings. A hybrid of working home and in the office is required.

  • AAT qualified or equivalent work experience
  • Prepared to undertake further training and development and be committed to delivering of an agreed personal development plan
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English, at Grade C or above.
  • Ability to learn complex VAT rules.

Experience

Essential

  • 3 years experience working in financial management environment
  • Experience of working with computerised financial systems.

Desirable

  • Experience of the research grants application process.
  • Knowledge of computerised finance systems such as purchase ledger, sales ledger and payroll systems.

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to convey financial information to non-financial managers
  • Be able to demonstrate a commitment to quality and customer focused service.
  • Exhibit integrity and behave openly. Adopt a positive, proactive and supportive approach.

  • Be able to understand and apply fundamental accounting concepts, such as accruals/commitment accounting. Double entry etc.
