Job summary

An excitingopportunity has arisenfor enthusiastic and driven band 5 registered nurses to join the growing C30 - Major Trauma Team.

The Major Trauma Unit C30, is currently a specialty level 1 unit with 18 beds. Due to the success of the unit we are now expanding with 8 additional beds, bringing the total to 26.

C30 can be a fast pace, dynamic area to work in as we receive patients directly from the Emergency Department (ED), theatre, and critical care and patients who are repatriated from other hospitals.

Major Trauma is a rewarding area to work in especially when patients who have suffered severe injuries who make great progression and go home to their families or further rehabilitation.

C30 is a supportive and welcoming environment that will encourage individuals to achieve their goals whilst enhancing their clinical skills in areas such as: venepuncture, cannulation, epidurals, drains, wounds, PCA's, cardiac monitoring, enteral feeding and tracheostomy care.

C30 has a dedicated clinical educator that provides support and assistance to all new starters during their transition to the Unit. This provides a highly supportive and friendly environment meaning all new starters will be supported through a preceptorship programme.

We are looking for a motivated, dedicated, patient focused individual who is committed to providing the highest quality care to patients during their admission on C30. They need to be keen to learn and develop their knowledge within the speciality.

Assess the care needs of patients and develop a programme of care which is evaluated and amended as appropriate.Carry out relevant forms of direct and indirect patient care without direct supervision.

Regularly take charge of the clinical area / team in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility or his/her deputy.Utilises and integrates evidence into practice.

Document the condition and progress of patients and report to medical staff and/or senior nursing staff any areas of concern.

Undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with agreed policies and guidelines.

Demonstrate clinical procedures to registered and unregistered staff as required.

Once competent in team management skills, take charge of the nursing team.Participate in the support and implementation of Essence of Care guidelines, nursing metric results and patient feedback (Fabio Frog).

Protect the rights, dignity and confidentiality of patients at all times.

Participate in clinical audit and demonstrate and understanding of the importance of audit. Assist in devising action plans in conjunction with senior staff to improve care. Be aware of your role with regard to the Medicines Code of Practice.

Comply with all Trust policies with particular regard to the policies andProcedures carried out in the event of maintaining staff and patient safety.

Liaise with other clinical areas providing appropriate policies, education and clinical expertise in order to facilitate the management of patients with special requirements.

Maintain an awareness of the developments in the care and treatment of patients in order to be able to carry out duties competently and efficiently

Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to promote efficient patient care and maintain effective channels of communication.

Report all accidents and untoward incidents to the nurse in charge of the area and complete an incident form in accordance with Trust policy.

Maintain complete and accurate patient records ensuring that they provide a detailed account of all care provided throughout the patients stay.

Communicate with and provide support for patients relatives, carers and visitors.

Be aware of the need for confidentiality both within the written and spoken word and ensure correct storage of patients records at all times, to comply with Information Governance.

Liaise with other clinical areas as necessary for the coordination of patient care and the smooth running of the ward/unit/department.
