Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the team working at the Nottingham Breast Institute at the City Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, as a trainee breast care nurse. This is a world renowned centre of excellence for breast cancer patients, seeing over 800 new breast cancers a year.We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced new team member to help with the expansion and development of the service, working with Breast Care Nurse Specialists and Oncoplastic Breast Surgeons. The successful applicant will be working within a very experienced team of Breast Care Nurses and Nurse Practitioners where you will be expected to carry your own caseload and work autonomously, following a period of training.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will lead and deliver a high quality of nursing care to: patients who have benign and / or malignant primary breast disease, and will be involved in the care of these patients which will include leading autonomous nurse-led clinics.

The post holder will also lead the provision of high quality specialist nursing care, providing support and advice to patients with breast cancer along with their families and carers, from assessment right through to diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. They will develop and deliver care in accordance with Trust and specialty procedures and protocols, taking into account the specific complex needs of patients with breast disease.

You will also be required to lead and coordinate the management of own caseload of patients, including complex cases, from the point of diagnosis to follow-up care.

Lead specialist nursing care in maintaining and developing a quality service.

Work autonomously in assessing patients and in providing them with access to the service, and to the relevant health professionals best suited to meet their care needs.

Provide, plan and organise activities to ensure the highest standards of patient assessment, care, treatment and referral or discharge of patients, including those with complex needs.

Provide written and verbal information to patients and their carers on all aspects of Breast care.

Provide psychological and emotional support to patients with breast cancer.

Essential

  • First level Degree or equivalent
  • Registered Nurse on Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the NMC Register

Desirable

  • Breast related course / accredited Breast care qualification
  • Evidence of Advanced Communication skills training course, or a willingness to undertake.

Experience
