Job summary
Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is one of the busiest teaching hospitals in Europe and is nationally recognised as having an established Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) service with strong partnerships with our local universities. We are now seeking a committed, enthusiastic and compassionate individual to join our team of Breast ACPs to deliver the highest quality care to our patients.
Applicants must be registered with a professional body (NMC, HCPC or equivalent) hold a GCSE in Maths and English (grade A-C or equivalent) and be able to undertake the Non-Medical Prescribing course. Successful candidates will commence on the ACP apprenticeship training pathway at the University of Nottingham in January 2024. We would also welcome applications from trainee ACPs who are part-way through their training and who are looking to move to Breast Surgery or to a supported and established ACP training pathway. We would strongly advise external and part-qualified applicants to contact the area prior to application.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant for this adult trainee ACP post will undertake the Advanced Clinical Practice MSc as an apprentice at The University of Nottingham and follow our supported and established three year ACP training pathway consisting of:
Year 1: Work 22.5 hours a week within an appropriate clinical position and the other 15 hours per week allocated to complete year 1 of the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.
Year 2: Full-time supernumerary status, work-based learning and non-medical prescribing modules. Supernumerary trainees will have dedicated consultant supervision time, mentorship and structured teaching. Following completion of non-medical prescribing and a percentage of the portfolio tACPs will be awarded a band 7.
Year 3: tACPs will undertake a VIVA, once completed the tACPs will undertake a supported transition onto the rota with a supervisory period. When the final gateway assessments/modules are completed the trainee will advance to a band 8a qualified ACP.
Once qualified, along with clinical work across the department the individual will have weekly rostered time to undertake their own CPD alongside service development work, education, teaching, research or management.

The Nottingham Breast Institute is part of the Nottingham Cancer Centre and provides breast services for the population of Nottingham city, several counties and tertiary areas for breast assessment, screening and family history. The unit see approximately 7-8000 new referrals and diagnose 700-800 new cases of breast cancer per year with additional referrals after diagnosis for management. The Nottingham Breast Institute is a renowned centre both nationally and internationally for oncoplastic breast surgery and attracts both national and international clinical fellows with an interest in breast oncoplastic reconstruction.
