Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust Surgery division to support our operational teams and procurement department to identify and deliver improvements to our specialties for the ultimate benefit of our patients.

With 20 clinical clinical specialties, and a turnover of £300m p.a. the Surgery Division is large and complex. Getting best value for money is obviously of paramount for the taxpayer and also the Trust as the NHS nationally has a huge financial challenge to meet targets whilst deliver efficient and excellent care.

The role will report to the Divisional Finance Business Partner but will also have close links to procurement category managers.

Main duties of the job

The role will be the bridge between the Surgery division and The Procurement Department.

The main duties will include:

Identification of savings opportunities

Contract management with external suppliers

Managing a wide range of stakeholders including senior clinicians in order to maximise the value of the relationships that the division has with it's suppliers

Support procurement category managers to deliver best commercial arrangements with our suppliers for the ultimate benefit of our patients

Job responsibilities

Contributing to complex procurements, managing multiple senior stakeholders supporting the reporting and presenting as required via Prince 2 methodology in both written and verbal formats.

Implementing a cost reduction strategy, supporting procurement category manager to deliver effective procurement and supporting the management of key supplier relationships to deliver breakthrough performance in cost, service and quality.

Supporting procurement activities, delivering savings and other optimal outcomes of a tactical (cost reduction) and strategic nature in a challenging healthcare environment. Accordingly you will be able to demonstrate change management and stakeholder management skills across multiple business units.

Gaining competitive advantage for NUH by identifying opportunities and best practice and leveraging the Trust spend within categories.

Support the category manager to ensure of compliance regading procurement from on-line catalogues and identify opprotunities where purchases are being made outside of contract.

Seeking out and engaging appropriate internal and external stakeholders at Senior Manager level to provide the information and insight to support the development of the strategic options within categories.

Where appropriate, working closely with a central procurement team and divisional leadership team to ensure the contracts you let deliver best value to NUH through effective supplier management.

Supporting contract management with external suppliers (but not internal arrangements with other NHS trusts) to support the category strategy and ensure best value is obtained during the life of a contract.

Promote procurement outside the procurement function and promoting change and development as required.

Working under your own initiative and being responsible for making effective decisions for the benefit of the Trust for a range of delegated projects

To be a member of the Divisional Operational Management Team advising and supporting them on with recommendations regarding service design and provision.

To be a member of the Surgery Team delivering a coordinated work-plan in a timely manner across the Division, ensuring that procurement best practices are fully represented and best value achieved at all levels.

To take ownership for unresolved problems/queries that are escalated and ensure they are resolved in agreed timescales.

Imparting skills and transferring procurement and / or product knowledge to Procurement Category Managers in order to ensure Surgery Division obtain best value from suppliers, and assist to in skills development with operational managers in the division.

To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required
