A great opportunity has arisen on C24 to work within NEGSS. If successful you will work with a multi disciplinary team to provide care for patients pre and post op from specialities including HPB, Colorectal, Gastro, Vascular, ENT and general surgery. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and passionate about surgical nursing. Our unit has 14 inpatient beds both male and female and 4 same day emergency care beds in which we admit patients from the surgical triage unit awaiting same day surgery, these patients are day case patients that follow criteria led discharges. C24 is a small and friendly team and recent winners of a team Daisy award we provide excellent patient care and invest in our staff learning and career development.
Main duties of the job
Working on C24 will give you the opportunity to develop your skills around pre and post-operative care, A-E assessments, patients with complex wounds & End of Life care. You will experience working with both inpatients and day case surgical patients. To achieve our vision of excellence we actively encourage and support our team to progress by learning new skills by completing local packages including cannulation and venepuncture, ECG's, catheterisation, blood transfusion training, and learning beyond registration. We have a dedicated clinical educator to help support you in your transition to working on C24. We will also expect you to be able to effectively use hospital systems such as Nervecentre, Medway and Notis and EPMA as these systems are all part of your daily nursing assessments and practice. We have strong team work ethics on c24 and encourage all staff to work together to provide the service needed for our patients. As a registered nurse you may be expected to co ordinate shifts once confident to do so, managing patient flow and providing safe and effective handovers to the team.
About us
We believe in support and development of all our staff and have a dedicated clinical educator. If you are successful in your recruitment, we will offer an individualised supernumerary period with an ongoing personal development plan. You will be inducted to the Emergency General Surgery Team and collaborate with staff from our division particularly C31 and C32 / STU. You will attend surgical mandatory training and will receive training from our experienced clinical educator and senior nurses to develop your skills within the speciality. You will be encouraged and supported to develop your own skills and knowledge.
