Main duties of the job

In addition to the below summary you need to familiarise yourself with full Job Description and Person Specification documents attached to this advert.

You will have the ability to be flexible and organised in the workplace with a passion for nursing.

You will be an effective role model, delivering regular clinical care and particularly ensuring the safe, effective and efficient delivery of the Molecular Radionuclude Therapy service. You will also support the diagnostic Nuclear Medicine service, providing nursing care to patients attending for scans where required.

The provision of clinical and non-clinical governance is an essential part of the role.

We require an enthusiastic and conscientious team player with excellent communication skills who is well motivated and reliable.

We need you to work as a member of the team and in support of the head of section to ensure standards of patient care are maintained, evaluated, and where necessary improved, including advising on Trust procedures and best practice in patient care.

Act as the patients' advocate in maintaining their comfort and dignity at all times while within the care of the section.

Have responsibility for ensuring that patients are involved in their care, providing visible evidence that patient feedback is used to maintain standards or implement improvements that have an effect on care.

About us

The Nuclear Medicine Section comprises approximately 40 individuals working between two sites (Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital Campus) and operates a diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine service utilising 4 gamma cameras, plus a bone densitometry service equipped with 4 bone densitometers.

The Nuclear Medicine Clinics perform a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging and non-imaging investigations (these include nuclear cardiology, oncology, paediatrics, gastroenterology and orthopaedics) and also provide a growing molecular radionuclide therapy service (Iodine-131, Radium-223 and SIRT).

The Bone Densitometry Clinic performs a full range of bone densitometry investigations on behalf of various specialties within the Trust and for GPs, and is part of a fracture liaison service for the assessment and treatment of older patients with low trauma fractures.

The clinics operate on an outpatient basis (Monday to Friday 8:30-4:30), although inpatients are also seen within clinic hours. The clinics also undertake scans in support of research studies and to investigate possible service developments.

We require you to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and have the ability to manage a clinical area efficiently. Experience within Nuclear Medicine, Bone Densitometry or Diagnostic Radiology would be helpful, but is not essential. You must be able to communicate effectively with patients, their carers and clinical colleagues.
