The post holder will work flexibly within the Specialist Midwifery Team to provide caseholding care for the most vulnerable and complex clients effected by, exposed to or at risk from Domestic Abuse and Homelessness.
To contribute to the development and delivery of high quality midwifery services in line with professional and government policy in order to tackle the negative impact on pregnancy associated with both domestic abuse and homelessness .You will provide a seamless service that is responsive to client need. This will involve delivering care from both acute sites and the community. You will ensure that relevant pathways, policies and processes for women with these additional vulnerabilities are followed whilst keeping up-to-date with local and national guidelines related to this specialist role.
Main duties of the job
You will also be responsible for a caseload of vulnerable women with complex social needs, specifically women suffering domestic abuse and homelessness. Your role will include the planning and implementation of individualised midwifery led care offered in partnership with the woman and the multidisciplinary team. Using continual assessment and analysis you will provide continuity of care throughout the woman's pregnancy, birth(where appropriate) and the postnatal period to ensure her medical, psychological and social needs are assessed and holistically cared for.
You will be working alongside multi professional teams providing the most appropriate care for women whilst breaking down barriers that can inhibit women with socially complex lives accessing high quality maternity care. Working in a variety of settings including community, hospital and women's homes including confidential addresses.
Have increased knowledge of and interest in, the impact that immigration status and ethnicity has on pregnancy outcomes. Have awareness and knowledge around other complexities including domestic abuse, homelessness and poor mental health. Work in partnership with other members of the Specialist team to ensure a joint plan of care and management of risks.
Act as an advocate for vulnerable women and their families and ensure due regard is given to customs, values, and spiritual belief.
