Physiotherapist - Burns and Plastics

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the burns and plastic physiotherapy team as a static full time band 6 Physiotherapist. If you enjoy variety in your working day and treating a mix of in and outpatients this is the perfect post for you.

Previous experience in burns isn't essential but hand experience would be desirable.

Main duties of the job

The post will rotate between two roles. One role will involve treating predominantly burns in and outpatients, attending MDT's, ward rounds, liaising with OT, dressings clinics and making simple hand splints. You will take a lead on managing the burns unit from a physiotherapy perspective alongside a rotational band 5 with an experienced band 7 & 8a for advice/support. The other aspect of the role will involve treating predominantly hand outpatients of varying significance, following treatment protocols and adapting these to individuals' needs using sound clinical reasoning. It will involve communicating with surgeons and nursing staff, making static hand splints and doing very basic dressings. You will also be responsible for managing the elective surgery aspect of the service. Again, you will be supported by an experienced band 7 & 8a and you will find the whole multi-disciplinary team very friendly, supportive and welcoming.

Exposure to wounds of varying significance is routine and attendance in theatre to do stretches is an occasional need.

Once trained and competent in the management of adults, you will start to attend paediatric clinics (at QMC site) for half a day per week to cover the burns and plastic surgery service there. This will be shared with the band 7 and the other static band 6.

Managerially you will share the development of rotational band 5 staff (shared with the rotational band 6) and also involvement with final year physiotherapy students.
