Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a newly qualified Clinical Scientist in Neurophysiology who would embrace to opportunity to undertake a bespoke training programme over twelve months to learn advanced neurophysiological techniques such as intraoperative neuro monitoring and cerebral function monitoring at NUH.

Applications are invited from those who are about to complete the Scientist Training Programme in Neurophysiology who would like to develop a particular interest in critical care EEG and cerebral function monitoring.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will assist Consultant Scientists in delivering routine, and long term EEG monitoring in a range of critical care patients, encompassing adult, neonatal and paediatric.

The successful candidate will participate in the training of students and other staff andtake part in audit and service development. Approximately half the working week will be spent training in intraoperative monitoring in spinal or neuro theatres. There is also an expectation that the post holder will train to deliver cerebral function monitoring and participate in the department on call rota, providing a 24/7 cerebral function monitoring service to adult and paediatric critical care units and emergency EEG 9-5 weekends and bank holidays, once training is complete.

About us

Nottingham Clinical Neurophysiology provides a wide range of routine and complex investigations including all aspects of EEG, somatosensory evoked potentials, upper and lower limb nerve conduction studies and sleep studies. Adult and paediatric patients are seen from across the East Midlands and further afield. The department does offer extended opening hours and the successful candidate must be able to work 12 hour shifts during the week.

This position is tailored to applicants exiting the national Scientist Training Programme in Neurophysiology this year. A bespoke training programme will be delivered in house by every experienced Specialist Neurophysiological and Consultant Scientists across the whole range of complex neurophysiological services but with particular emphasis on spinal cord and cerebral function monitoring. On successful completion of the training and assessment of competency, the successful candidate would transition to the band 7 pay scale proper.
