Job summary
This is a 12month fellowship opportunity that will focus on the recruitment and training of a cohort of Simulated Patients (SPs) of diverse age and ethnicity to support the delivery of Emergency Surgery, Spinal and Obstetric and Gynaecological Training across the multi-professional workforce at NUH and across the region.
The fellow will work within a team to plan a recruitment strategy and develop an educational programme for simulated patients.
This opportunity is suitable for a Dr or ACP with the equivalent experience of an ST3 or above.
Main duties of the job
This Fellowship will give you:
- The opportunity to develop leadership, project management and educational skills under the supervision of senior NHS leaders in DREEAM and ED.
- Enhance expertise in simulation based education (SBE), with a particular focus on SPs, Hybrid Simulation and Augmented Reality.
- The acquisition of skills in curriculum design / alignment in the creation of a training programme of SP training
- Experience of engaging with the wider public and involving them in healthcare training.
- Developing skills in networking and collaborative working by engaging clinicians from Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Spines in the training.
- The attainment of a PG Cert in Medical Education (studying alongside other HEE Fellows in DREEAM, as part of a vibrant learning community)

Personal Educational Development
This post offers the successful applicant an opportunity to develop educational, project management and leadership skills under the close supervision of senior clinicians and academics. The Fellow will be supported to attain a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and will be expected to progress a personal educational portfolio, mapping against the Association of Medical Education (AoME) and other recognised competency frameworks.
Educational Research
The post holder will be expected to support ongoing research projects in DREEAM/ED and will be given the opportunity, and supported, to submit at least three publications to peer reviewed journals, as well as presenting abstracts at educational / emergency medicine conferences.
