Job summary

We are a 28 bedded Neurosurgical and Neurology ward under the surgical speciality. We pride ourselves on our high standards of patient care and team work.

The post holder will provide a comprehensive and administrative service Ward Manager and deputy Ward Mangers to assist in the smooth and effective performance of their duties and make a direct and positive contribution to the work of the team. The successful candidate must exercise initiative to organise their own workload within the constraints of defined deadlines. Knowledge and experience of ward administration would be beneficial but not essential. A good standard of education and experience of Microsoft Office packages including a good knowledge of Word and Excel is essential. You will need to provide comprehensive administrative services to the ward staff and assist in the day-to-day administration management of the workforce.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to employ a motivated and conscientious Ward Administrator to join our team. This is a part time post of 30 hrs per week. The main duty of the post will be to efficiently and effectively manage the administrative support to the Ward Sister to ensure the smooth running of the ward.

Previous experience of working in administrationis essential. You will have the ability to prioritise and respond to planned and unplanned situations and assist in the smooth and efficient running of the ward, often dealing with various internal and external staffing teams and department along with sometimes working with outside agencies or companies.

The successful candidate will need to solve problems and issues sensitively, and develop enhanced skills and support others to achieve this. Initiative and the ability to problem solve are integral skills to this role.

Excellent interpersonal skills and telephone manner along with the ability to use them effectively to work with staff.

Desirable but not essential, that you are educated to NVQ level 3 in administration or equivalent qualification or experience and have comprehensive administrative/data management experience (preferably in an NHS setting or a busy office environment).
