Barnsley
Hospital invites enthusiastic and capable doctors at Foundation Year 2 or Core
Trainee level to apply for the above post on our General Medicine ward. The
successful candidate will be appointed on a fixed term contract for 12 months.
This post is ideally suited for doctors who have an interest in Medicine. The
post holder will work standard days Monday Friday, 9am 5pm.
This
post does not attract educational approval from Health Education England, but
the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in local teaching/
training.

Main duties of the job
The
key duties included within the post are as follows:
The admission, clerking and
day to day care of their patients on the wards, as assigned.
The examination,
investigation, treatment and referral (as appropriate) of patients presented
within the department
The successful candidate will
be expected to participate in regular appraisal and the Trust/Department
Clinical Governance Programme.
To maintain a good working
relationship with existing staff members in the hospital.
To perform duties in occasional
emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate
Consultant in conjunction, where practicable, with their colleagues both senior
and junior.

The Trust is committed to the furtherance of a high
quality education programme for all Junior Medical/Dental Staff. It will
endeavour to provide opportunity, facilities and the necessary time in order to
attain this. Appropriate study leave will be permitted providing that an 80%
attendance is forthcoming at the appropriate educational meetings.
All staff are to attend CPR training.
The Trust will provide a suitable programme of a ward
induction within 2 weeks of commencement. A mandatory training induction will
follow this.
The educational supervisor will meet with the junior
doctor within the first month of commencement, to outline the components of the
post, with a view to determine the educational needs of the doctor.
Appropriate assessment and appraisal will be given.
Recognition This
post will not be recognised as a training post.
The Education
Centre is based on the BHHFT site, but is separate from the main hospital. Its facilities include a state of the art
lecture theatre and a mixture of seminar, tutorial and classrooms. The Education Centre is
the central point for educational activity at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation
Trust. It is now being developed as a
facility to support education activity for the whole health community of
Barnsley. It is also the focal point for
library and information services for the Barnsley health community. A
professional librarian is in attendance and books are available from the
national collections. The University library is available in Sheffield, the
medical section being situated in the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
