Main duties of the job
You
will take a key role in delivering high-quality emergency care, providing
senior clinical input, guiding patient management, and supporting flow through
the department. Working closely with consultants and multidisciplinary teams,
you will supervise and mentor junior staff, contribute to teaching and
training, and help drive quality improvement initiatives. The role requires
strong clinical judgement, effective communication, resilience under pressure,

a busy, consultant-led department. The post holder will provide senior clinical
assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting with a wide range
of acute conditions, ensuring safe, timely, and effective care.
You
will take a leading role on the shop floor, offering guidance and clinical
supervision to junior doctors and advanced practitioners, while working
collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to support patient flow
and decision-making.
The
role includes active involvement in teaching and training, contributing to
educational programmes, simulation, and the development of trainees and other
healthcare professionals. You will also participate in clinical governance
activities, including audit, quality improvement projects, and departmental
meetings aimed at enhancing patient safety and service delivery.
There
are opportunities to develop specialist interests such as medical education,
paediatric emergency medicine, leadership, and service development. The post
holder will be encouraged to contribute to innovation, research, and continuous
improvement within the department.

- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC);
- On the GMC Specialist Register in Emergency Medicine, or within 6 months of achieving CCT;
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM) or equivalent;
