Job summary
An exciting and new opportuniyty has arisen within Hepatology at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Hepatology HCA / Fibroscan Technician to help pioneer the delivery of health improvement interventions with people whose liver health may be compromised.
The newly created role is an intergral part of the Hepatology service in Barnsley and we are looking for an individual with an interest in working in a busy Gastroenterology service running the fibro-scanning clinics, speaking to patients over the phone and with some administration duties, working alongside and with the support of the Liver specialist Nurse team.
A Fibro-scan is a simple non-invasive test, it is a portable machine which is used to assess the degree of scarring in the liver.
The post is a permanent full time band 3 working Monday to Friday.
Main duties of the job
This is is a Health care assistant role within the speciality team of Hepatology to assist in providing specific duties which will include:-
Responsible for fibro scanning patients referred by members of the multi-disciplinary team
Provide fibro scans adopting standard protocols and in line with Trust policies and operational guidelines.
Ensure that equipment is prepared adequately prior to the procedure and to carry out fibro scans in a safe environment, responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the Fibroscan machine including calibration as per manufacturers safety guidelines.
Communicate effectively with patients and family members, ensuring the procedure is explained fully, any questions are answered, and verbal consent is obtained.
Support for the liver surveillance programme
Phlebotomy
Administration duties including speaking to patients via telephone and data collection.
Formal training and industry delivery certification will be provided for the successful candidate.
Explanation of results to patients is not expected of this role
