Band 4 Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner Orthopaedics and Surgery

28.5 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Orthopaedics and Surgery team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will support the running of our trauma and elective services, and surgical service with support from the Occupational Therapists, including

community assessment of orthopaedic and surgical patients through the Discharge to Assess pathway.

The post holder will be expected to participate in, and support, the return of a 7 day service within this

Speciality.

Successful applicants should demonstrate an enthusiasm for working in an acute setting, with

particular interest in Orthopaedics and Surgery, as well as developing services for Barnsley patients.

We offer clinical supervision, staff support, professional development opportunities and a supportive

and friendly working environment. This role will be supported by registered Occupational Therapists offering supervision support and training. A thorough induction will be provided.

Main duties of the job

To provide therapy interventions and assessments and implement programmes of care devised by Occupational Therapists, within scope of practise, and to be able to modify care plans, with the availability of registered staff as needed.

To promote and understand the impact and importance of early intervention, prevention of deconditioning and home first, supporting patients from admission through to discharge from hospital to home.

The post-holder will manage a caseload, within an agreed framework, to support the assessment of patients in hospital and their own home.

To support the Occupational Therapists to deliver high standards of coordinated, personalised care whilst working as an integral member of the Occupational Therapy Orthopaedics and Surgery team.

To provide on going therapy support to people from admission through to discharge from hospital.

To contribute to audits and service evaluations, gathering patient feedback assess the effectiveness of care and inform service delivery.

To work with patients and their support networks within the scope of 1:1, face to face and telephone appointments as required following training.

To provide interventions in acute and community locations across the health community covered by The Barnsley NHS Foundation Trust as required.
