for communication aids and environmental control across the Yorkshire and
Humber region and are directly commissioned by NHS England as a specialised
service.
We are looking for
someone to provide expert educational input into the delivery of our service
across Yorkshire and Humberside. This new post is for a qualified Teacher to
work as an Assistive Technology Specialist Teacher, using your specialist knowledge and
understanding of childrens learning to support the assessment and provision of
assistive technology across our region.
You will support children and young people in education who use or
may benefit from Assistive Technology (AT) including Augmentative and
Alternative Communication (AAC). You will advise children and young people,
parents/guardians, teaching staff, and colleagues in the team in relation to
how best to support the use of AT and AAC in educational settings. You will be
a holistic advocate for children and their families and promote best use of AT
and AAC in their homes and educational establishments
Main duties of the job
You will develop and promote the use of
technology to support the communication and educational needs of children and
young people with complex verbal/physical communication difficulties. This job will involve:
Support AAC and other AT interventions carried out alongside Assistive
Technology Clinical Specialists to children and young people in educational
settings i.e. taking part in assessment appointments and follow-up.
Leading within the region in collating and sharing examples of good
practice relating to AAC and AT in education.
Leading within the region in understanding and improving educational staff
awareness and engagement with the Assistive Technology Team.
Developing. or sourcing and delivering training for education staff to
support the improvement of AAC implementation.
Developing resources to support education staff in implementing AAC.
Training clinical staff within the AT team regarding access to the
curriculum supporting them to set and present AAC goals to teaching staff.
Liaising with other teachers employed within Specialised Assistive
Technology Services to plan appropriate interventions.
