Job summary

The therapy assistant practitioner position is a brand-new exciting addition to the unit team. The role would fit for a dynamic and forward-thinking person who has experience in therapy working and is keen to develop their skills.

The Acorn Intermediate Care unit provides short term specialist care for people who need extra support, care and rehabilitation to support them returning home or appropriate place on discharge.

The role will provide a unique blend of physiotherapy and occupational therapy assessments and interventions to the patients that we care for. Placing the patient at the centre of their recovery, in order to achieve their goals.

Main duties of the job

The therapy assistant practitioner will work as part of the Acorn Unit MDT to provide therapeutic treatments and assessments.

This will include, but not limited to:

Carrying out protocol-based assessments of patients in order to guide treatments.

Providing rehabilitation plans to patients to support progression.

Carry out group exercise classes.

To be able to perform physiotherapy and occupational therapy-based session with patients.

To support nursing colleagues in relation to patients mobility levels and ability in performing own care needs.

Support in formulating plans in relation to patients onward care.

  • Experience of working in a rehabilitation setting.
  • Proven practical experience and theoretical knowledge at Band 3 level, from working in a relevant therapeutic healthcare environment.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Experience in supervising/inducting/supporting others at work.

Desirable

  • Administration/clerical experience.
  • Previous experience in NHS setting.
  • Experience of integrated working.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Foundation degree Health and Social Care, or equivalent level 5 qualification; plus, A-levels and GCSEs or equivalent(s), including
  • Functional Skills (level 2).
  • Or as a level 5 apprenticeship, such as the Assistant Practitioner
  • Apprenticeship.
  • Care Certificate.

  • Other qualification/experience in relevant area.
