Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join the adult acute inpatient team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHNFT) for a 12 months fixed term contract/secondment opportunity. This is an excellent opportunity for an SLT who is experienced, ready for the next step in their professional career and/or wishing to make a change.

The successful candidate will work independently and with supervisory support alongside a friendly, open and supportive team. The successful candidate will provide assessment, treatment and intervention to patients with swallowing and/or communication difficulties.

The position will cover the acute inpatient wards at Barnsley Hospital, including medical wards, surgical wards, and ICU. This allows the successful candidate to work with a variety of clinical presentations in an inpatient environment including, but not limited to, Respiratory, Care of the Elderly, Tracheostomy and Critical care, ENT, Head and Neck Cancer and Neurology.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality, person-centred assessment and management of complex swallowing and communication difficulties, that is in line with the latest evidence base.

To demonstrate excellent organisational and team working skills, as well as working within multidisciplinary teams. To demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills when working with patients, families and within the wider multi-disciplinary team.

To contribute to developing and/or delivering specialised training packages to a variety of recipients with respect of adults with swallowing or communication difficulties, including to other professional groups.

To support and supervise junior members of the SLT team in their development of knowledge and skills in relation to speech and language therapy.

To follow departmental policies/guidelines and to support the development of innovations in service delivery, taking account of clinical governance.
