An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to join the Acute SLT Team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHNFT). This role is ideal for a Newly Qualified Practitioner (NQP) or a therapist looking to further develop their clinical skills within a dynamic and supportive acute inpatient setting.

In this role, you will provide assessment, treatment, management, and specialist advice to adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties. The post covers a range of acute inpatient areas, including medical and surgical wards as well as the Acute Stroke Unit, offering valuable experience across varied clinical presentations.

At BHNFT, we provide robust clinical supervision and are committed to supporting your ongoing professional development. You will have access to a wide range of internal and external training opportunities, including courses aligned with RCSLT NQP competencies. This may include training that supports progression toward becoming a dysphagia trained practitioner. For NQPs, we also offer dedicated support in completing the RCSLT Newly Qualified Practitioner competencies.

Main duties of the job

To apply clinical knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis and management of individuals with swallowing and/or communication difficulties, providing care that is high quality, person-centred and in line with the up-to-date evidence base.

To demonstrate excellent communication & interpersonal skills when working with patients, families and within the wider multi-disciplinary team.

To show enthusiasm & proactive contribution to the Speech and Language Therapy Teams expansion across Barnsley Hospital. To follow departmental policies/guidelines and to support the development of innovations in service delivery, taking account of clinical governance.
