We are seeking an experienced and motivated midwife to join our Safeguarding Team as the Named Midwife for Safeguarding. This is a pivotal role ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding practice for women, children, and families.

As the Named Midwife for Safeguarding, you will:

Provide expert advice, training, supervision, and leadership to maternity staff to ensure vulnerable pregnant women, babies, and families receive high-quality, evidence-based protection from harm.

Work closely with other professionals and agencies to develop policies, monitor care, and ensure statutory duties are met, with a particular focus on domestic abuse, substance misuse, and complex needs. Act as a key safeguarding lead within maternity services, supporting staff in managing complex cases and promoting a Think Family approach.

You will be part of a supportive safeguarding team committed to continuous improvement and innovation. This role offers opportunities for professional development and the chance to make a real difference to the safety and wellbeing of families in our care.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities include

Safeguarding LeadershipAct as the lead professional for safeguarding within maternity services, ensuring compliance with statutory guidance, NHS England standards, and local safeguarding policies.

Expert Advice & SupportProvide specialist advice to midwives and the wider multidisciplinary team on safeguarding concerns, including child protection, domestic abuse, and vulnerable adults.

Multi-Agency CollaborationWork closely with social care, police, health visitors, and other agencies to promote a Think Family approach.

Case ManagementParticipate in and contribute to serious case reviews, domestic homicide reviews, and safeguarding audits.

Training & DevelopmentDesign, deliver, and evaluate safeguarding training programmes for maternity staff.

SupervisionProvide safeguarding supervision to midwives and other staff, supporting reflective practice and professional development.

Policy & GovernanceAssist in developing and reviewing safeguarding policies, procedures, and guidelines within maternity services.

Data & ReportingMaintain accurate safeguarding records and produce reports for internal governance and external agencies as required.

Quality ImprovementLead on audits and quality improvement initiatives related to safeguarding, ensuring continuous improvement in practice.

Escalation & Risk ManagementAct as the point of escalation for complex safeguarding cases and ensure timely risk assessments and action planning.
