Job summary
We are looking for an experienced Childrens Nurse to transition into the role of paediatric coordinator. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop both your managerial and leadership skills whilst maintaining your clinical competencies.As Paediatric Coordinator, you will have an overview of the service from both a clinical and operational perspective on each shift. Using your existing knowledge and experience, you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to effectively manage each patients journey through the organisation.Excellent communication skills are essential as not only will you communicate with patients and their families, but also liaise with colleagues at all levels, external agencies and provide daily reports to the senior leadership and site teams.You must be organised and able to make sound decisions under pressure, in a fast-paced environment.You will be required to respond to changing clinical situations, coordinate safe staffing, manage patient flow, take referrals and signpost service users. Your flexible team working skills will allow you to meet the demands of this role to work both independently and as part of multiple teams across different clinical areas. As such, you will support the delivery and achievement of high standards of clinical practice across the childrens service pathway.Every day offers something different for the paediatric coordinator, so if you like variety within your working day, come and join us.
Main duties of the job
Coordinating the patient journey through the Childrens Services Pathways, including but not exclusively, the Paediatric Emergency Department, Childrens assessment Unit, Childrens Ward, Neonatal Unit and Childrens Community Nursing Team.
Monitor and escalate the ED 4 hour target
Supporting clinical practice where required to alleviate pressures created by acuity and volumes of patients within Childrens Services.
Responding in a supporting capacity to emergency and non-emergency situations.
Providing the senior leadership team with information about staffing, staff movements, and bed occupancy daily.
Liaising with the site team/matrons for escalation.
Responding to referrals from outside agencies with signposting to the relevant department.
Supporting data collection and audits
Assisting with service improvement plans, contributing to the development of the role.
