6 Months Fixed Term / Secondment Opportunity
An opportunity
has arisen to join our team of Site Matrons at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation
Trust for a 6 months secondment period. The post holder will be supported by an
established team of Site Matrons supported by an Operational Support Manager
and Patient Flow Assistants.
The Site Matron
role is integral to the successful operation of the hospital; you will need to
be a quick thinker and strong leader with excellent problem-solving skills,
able to negotiate sound operational decisions in rapidly changing situations,
often under pressure so a calm and pleasant manner is essential. Your main responsibilities will include promoting
effective patient flow ensuring safe and effective patient placement.
You will be a
registered nurse with a masters degree or equivalent qualifications and
demonstrable clinical experience, with significant experience as a Band 7. You
will possess enhanced nursing and leadership skills and have an understanding
of current acute hospital performance indicators. The post holder will need to
demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills.

Main duties of the job
A broad overview of responsibilities includes managing the Trusts bed capacity and patient flow and assisting in the achievement of key performance and quality standards (e.g. emergency and elective admission access targets, single sex accommodation, and infection control). You will also be required to, support safe staffing levels. Out of hours you will have overall responsibility for the hospital site with support from the on-call senior manager and the executive on call.
The team covers the site 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The shift pattern is 12.5-hour shifts covering days and nights.
