We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals who want to develop their career within the Medical Imaging Department of a busy District General Hospital in the role of an Assistant Practitioner.
We welcome applications from accredited Assistant Practitioners, working within a Diagnostic Medical Imaging Department or other clinical areas, and also individuals currently studying towards the qualification who are keen to gain hands on experience in Imaging.
The post will provide the opportunity to develop your clinical skills in adult and paediatric plain film, emergency and trauma radiography, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and DEXA scanning.
You will be joining a friendly and welcoming team and will be working together to provide a high quality, responsive diagnostic service and deliver excellent patient care in line with the Trust core values. You will be expected to maintain high clinical standards but above all, patients must be at the forefront of your practice.
You must have excellent communication and organisational skills, a commitment to CPD and a basic practical knowledge of radiation protection, legislation and health and safety requirements.
We operate a 7 day service covered by a shift system; there is no requirement to work night shifts within this role but weekends are included.
You will be required to work at both the Hospital and at The Community Diagnostic Centre in the town centre.
Main duties of the job
To work as part of the team responsible for providing an efficient imaging service throughout the department.
To perform a range of radiographic procedures as detailed in the scheme of work within the main department under the supervision of a qualified radiographer.
To ensure all requests are justified and authorised by a radiographer as per departmental protocol and to refer requests on that don't.
Responsible for providing an effective radiography service liaising with wards and departments at all times to prioritise workload and demand according to patients clinical urgency.
To ensure the highest possible standards of patient care are maintained at all times.
To provide the patient with a full explanation of the radiographic procedure prior to the examination commencing.
To contribute towards the efficient deployment of resources enabling the patient to receive a safe, accurate and timely examination.
To frequently assist in the care of patients which will include moving / handling and supporting patients, escorting patients and relatives, explaining and assisting with dressing / undressing requirements. This may require the removal and storage of patients possessions whilst they are having their examinations.
Rotation through different modalities within the Medical Imaging Department.
Insertion & removal of venflons and testing for patency.
To take part in the extended working day & 7-day rotation
