Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian looking to join the Nutrition and Dietetics team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

This fixed term post provides an opportunity to work within the wider Paediatric Diabetes MDT service in Barnsley, where you would work closely alongside Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Paediatric Diabetes Consultants. You will work closely with our existing Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian to see patients under the age of 19 who have a diagnosis of Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes. This role involves being part of weekly MDT clinics, providing dietetic led clinics, undertaking home and school visits and doing group education. You will also have the opportunity to work within the inpatient setting to see children and young people who are newly diagnosed with diabetes. Part of the job role also involves working with the wider Paediatric Diabetes team on projects and service development.

You will be part of our friendly dietetic team and have excellent support from experienced dietitians and our dedicated administration team. You will have the opportunity to support student dietitians on their placements as we take students from several universities. We are a proactive department where personal development is promoted, therefore attendance on study days is offered in line with identified learning needs.

This is a full time role, however part time applications will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will work alongside the current Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian to manage a caseload of children and young people across Barnsley with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

They will see newly diagnosed patients on the wards and provide Level 3 carbohydrate counting, and then follow up these patients in the community in a range of outpatient clinics, home visits, phone reviews and school visits. They will attend weekly MDT clinics and have an active role in contributing in weekly MDT meetings and service development.
