This is a great
opportunity to join a nationally recognised assistive technology team and to
consolidate or develop specialist skills in this exciting and rewarding area of
practise. We deliver specialised
services for Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Environmental
Control across Yorkshire and the Humber.
We are looking
to recruit a Speech & Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Clinical
Scientist to join our team. We are
looking either for candidates who are experienced in assessing for and making
recommendations for specialised assistive technology or who are passionate and
motivated to develop skills and experience in this field.
You will be responsible for
making recommendations for appropriate equipment provision &, in
collaboration with local teams, will support our clients in using this
equipment to improve their independence and participation.
The role is
that of an assistive technology specialist, however we will consider applicants
wishing to apply for this as a training post (Annex 21 of Agenda for Change). You would be expected to develop
the assistive technology specific knowledge, experience and skills required
through supported independent working over a period of around a year and
evidenced against our published competency framework.
The job description
is for an Assistive Technology Clinical Specialist SLT but is similar for an
Occupational Therapist or Clinical Scientist in this role.
Main duties of the job
If successful,
you will be working across Yorkshire and Humber visiting clients in their own
home or other setting. The people you visit may be children and adults with a
range of underlying disabilities and your role will be to assess for and then
provide as appropriate specialist communication aids and environmental controls
(including computer access equipment).
Access to and
use of a car for work is thus essential and you will be expected to be based
from and travel from home for some of the week, where this minimises travel and
makes appointments more effective.
You will help
deliver the high quality services to our clients that they expect. You will be
responsible for making recommendations for appropriate equipment provision and
will work with in-house technologists and company representatives to ensure
this is effectively provided. You will
also work with local teams in delivering training and other support.
The role involves working across Yorkshire and the Humber and assessing the needs of children and adults around the use of Environmental Controls (including computer access equipment) and Communication Aids.

- Further relevant qualification and/or experience equivalent to Masters degree level.
