We are looking to recruit an ambitious pharmacist who would like to work collaboratively with other clinical colleagues to resolve prescribing interface issues, maintain and update clinical guidelines, shared care frameworks and undertake critical evaluation of new medicines for addition to the local formulary.

This role will give you the opportunity to work alongside the Barnsley Place Medicines Optimisation Team and local community services to co-design treatment pathways for the benefit of our patients. You will be expected to lead on projects which affect medicine use across primary and secondary care settings. The combination of responsibilities within this post will significantly facilitate your growth as a pharmacy practitioner. You will be supported to develop your expertise by the Medicines Evaluation Team Leader.

The role will facilitate advancement of your clinical practice as you will be required to contribute to our ward-based pharmacy service. Our multi-disciplinary medicines optimisation teams will ensure that you have maximal patient contact and the opportunity to develop individual speciality expertise.

The cost of the DBS (criminal records check) for Band 6 and above roles only will be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction.

Main duties of the job

The focus of this role is to:

Support implementation of decisions made by the Barnsley area prescribing committee within Barnsley Hospital. This will include promoting the principles of Medicines Optimisation and assist in developing, contributing and ensuring compliance with national and local guidelines relevant to prescribing/medicines use across the various healthcare interfaces.

Lead on agreed projects affecting medicines across the primary/secondary care boundary including shared care guidelines, support for repatriation and formulary issues.

Be a key player in implementing agreed changes to medicines optimisation processes to ensure medicines quality and cost-effective prescribing is maintained across the various interfaces.

Assist in editing and maintaining the Joint Barnsley formulary and liaise with the relevant teams to ensure systems reliant on formulary data are kept up to date.

This post will suit you if you hold or are working towards a postgraduate certificate in clinical pharmacy or you have transferrable experience in primary care. You should be an excellent communicator with the ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team. An understanding of interface issues and the managed introduction of new medicines would be an advantage.
