2348 - Specialist Occupational Therapist - Urgent Care

Job summary

Part-time position 26.25 hours per week, 12 months fixed term/secondment opportunity.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work in the area of Urgent Care at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will provide specialist Occupational Therapy to patients within the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit, Short Stay Unit and Acute frailty SDEC; with the aim of accelerating the discharge process and preventing avoidable hospital admission.

The post holders will participate in a 7 day rota, providing a service between 0800 and 1800, involving flexible working patterns and weekend working.

An interest in elderly / falls rehabilitation and frailty is beneficial for this post. Applicants should have completed a wide variety of rotations at Band 5 level within the NHS in a relevant field.

The successful applicants should have excellent team working skills and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and patients.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should have an interest in working with an adult client group who present with a variety of conditions, and especially in assessing and treating elderly and frail patients with multiple comorbidities and complex needs.

You will work with Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Teams, the Acute Frailty Team and the ED team.

You will supervise students and junior members of staff where necessary, and on occasions deputise for the Band 7 team lead.

You will work closely with Occupational Therapy colleagues in the team and will complete some basic OT competencies to enable holistic assessments if lone working.

The successful applicant will have excellent team working skills and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and patients, as well as being able to work alone. Updated October 2023 You will thrive in a fast-paced environment to provide timely assessments with appropriate onward referrals to ensure safe and effective discharges for our patients.

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current Health Professions Council registration
  • Post qualification experience (i.e. Band 5 junior grade rotation/static band 5 post), in a relevant field
  • Broad range of clinical experience in a variety of OT settings, e.g. must include NHS acute hospital setting
  • Sound knowledge and application of current best practice in Occupational Therapy
  • COT Accredited APPLE Clinical Fieldwork Educator qualification, or working towards
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development (CPD portfolio), post graduate study

Desirable

  • Member of British Association of Occupational Therapists
  • Hold European Computer Driving Licence, or other IT intermediate skills
  • Experience of clinical audit and research
