Job summary
Barnsley NHS Foundation Trust are looking to
recruit an enthusiastic individual to work as a Specialty Doctor in Oral
Surgery. The post-holder will work with the current Oral Surgery / Oral and
Maxillofacial surgery team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity for the successful
post holder to develop a close working
relationship across Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery (OMFS) and Oral Surgery
(OS) within and outside of the Trust to deliver effective care for the
population of Barnsley.
We are now
seeking a Specialty Doctor who will work
closely with the existing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary
team to provide a comprehensive service to patients. This post will appeal to appropriately
trained and accredited clinicians who have enthusiasm and who are looking for a
stimulating and challenging career. They
will become an integral part of the routine workload and casemix management,
with a key administrative input and some clinical freedom to develop
interests. Whilst not a formal training
post, we would encourage and support ongoing personal development.
This
is a full-time post, working weekday standard day hours providing up to 10
Programmed Activities (PAs), but the Trust is happy to consider part time, flexible working
arrangements and / or extended days to deliver a desirable work life balance,
support professional goals and personal development.
Main duties of the job
The Oral Surgery/OMFS Departments employ
dentally and medically qualified staff. This role is intended to be pivotal in
ensuring the efficient running of the routine workload of the Oral Surgery / OMFS
department. The postholder will be expected to take on appropriate
administrative tasks with training and support. This may include delegation of
tasks and the provision of advice and formal teaching to more junior dentally
trained clinical staff. A dental degree,
GDC Registration, MFDS and substantial past relevant experience are
essential. Post graduate qualifications
would be considered advantageous.
Familiarity with the common and
significant medical comorbidities relevant to surgical treatment and their
efficient management is needed. The ability to diagnose radiological
abnormalities commonly encountered in referrals from dental practice is key to
the correct triage of referrals, which the post holder may become involved in,
depending on progress and ability.
You
will not be required to participate in an on-call rota. Your background would include substantial
experience in managing the simpler acute traumatic injuries forming the routine
workload of an OMFS Department and experience of triaging, handling and
appropriate onward referral of more complex or significant injuries and
emergency presentations.
