Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive, knowledgeable, and motivated Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist to join the Musculoskeletal and Orthopaedic Physiotherapy team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This post is ideal for an individual with a strong interest in musculoskeletal outpatients, orthopaedics, and fracture clinic, who is keen to further develop advanced clinical reasoning skills within a dynamic and supportive environment. The role forms part of a rotational service covering Outpatient Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Trauma and Elective Orthopaedics, and Fracture Clinic, providing exposure across both acute and outpatient pathways.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Sound postgraduate experience in musculoskeletal and/or orthopaedic physiotherapy
The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to the wider multidisciplinary team
A proactive approach to patient management, service development, and problem-solving
Strong communication skills and a commitment to high-quality, evidence-based care

Main duties of the job
The postholder will be HCPC registered, hold a degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy, and demonstrate recent, relevant post-graduate NHS experience, including completion of a broad range of Band 5 rotational posts including musculoskeletal outpatients and orthopaedics, respiratory and neurology.
The successful candidate will deliver high standards of autonomous clinical practice within musculoskeletal outpatients, orthopaedics, and fracture clinic settings. Providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with complex musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions, using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
The role requires involvement in service development and improvement across MSK and orthopaedic physiotherapy services within Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Flexibility of working practice is required, including participation in seven-day services, weekend working, and the Respiratory on-call rota.
The postholder will contribute to the education and development of others, including supervision of students and junior staff, delivery of in-service training, participation in appraisal processes, and deputising for the Band 7 Physiotherapist when required. A supportive environment with clinical supervision and development opportunities is provided.
